This course focuses on the comparative structural and functional aspects of cells/tissues/organs at the microscopic level with detailed histologic features and modifications specific to domestic animals discussed. It begins with the study of cytology/microscopy, four basic adult tissues to the study of organ systems. Each topic is followed by a microscopic practical session where students identify/appreciate relevant structures in histologic slides. This gives the student knowledge of the normal, essential in pathology, which deals with the study of alterations in structure and function of body tissues/organs due to disease condition. Thus histology has a central role in veterinary medical practice.
