As part of activities marking the Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa (DSRA), the School of Veterinary Medicine, engaged the level 500 students to actively participate in a public education and free anti rabies vaccination campaign in the community of Bawaleshie, a suburb of East Legon ,close to the University.
On Tuesday, 24th June 2025, the students visited the Bawaleshie Presbyterian Basic Schools 1 and 2, to educate pupils on Animal Welfare, Rabies prevention, and Safe behavior around animals. The interactive sessions were well-received by the pupils, who showed keen interest and enthusiasm throughout the presentations. The outreach was a success, fostering awareness and understanding of responsible animal care among the young learners.
As part of the college-wide community outreach organized by the College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS) on Wednesday, 25th June 2025, the School of Veterinary Medicine extended its impact through a free anti-rabies vaccination campaign. The veterinary team offered anti-rabies vaccination and deworming at the durber grounds and also conducted door-to-door vaccinations within the Bawaleshi township. The School of Veterinary Medicine was ably supported by the Agricultural Department of the Ayawaso West Municipal Office, who were very instrumental in executing the outreach.
At the end of the outreach, an appreciable number of cats and dogs were successfully vaccinated against rabies, contributing meaningfully to the fight against the deadly but preventable disease. This initiative highlighted the vital role of Veterinarians in public health and reaffirmed the School’s commitment to community service and animal welfare education.
The School of Veterinary Medicine remains dedicated to using science and outreach to improve both animal and human health, and looks forward to future opportunities to engage with and serve the public.
